Le Typographe from Belgium is one of our newest, luxury stationery brands and is available exclusively in Australia with NoteMaker.
The name is taken from the “typographus” – a small and industrious bark beetle capable of devastating spruce forests with its insatiable appetite. It lives under the bark, digging a maze of winding galleries, unintentionally suggestive of writing lines. These lines inspired Cédric Chauvelot, a former student of Fine Arts with a passion for typography, to make this small insect the emblem of his company and his brand: Le Typographe.
In 2009, he opened a shop in Brussels with its first traditional letterpress printing press and began producing “all things paper that could be personalised”. He then decided to create his own collection of stationery and presented it at an international exhibition. The growing creative team then decided to settle in the heart of the popular Châtelain area in Brussels. Le Typographe has its own retail space, with a large atelier (workshop) in the rear, running now six Heidelberg printing presses.
All the products are handmade in the Brussels workshop. The materials are carefully selected and include fine watermarked papers and thick, texturised and shaped papers, giving the products a truly sensual touch.
